Snakes in the grass

I decided to ignore my allergies.  I wanted to get my plants into the ground, so that I would produce food ... whenever it becomes time to produce food (I haven't thought THAT far ahead yet).

The puppies helping was NOT helping (one puppy grabbed one of my young plants and started chomping down on it).  And I couldn't find THE right spots to plant.  I felt like Goldilocks before the "just right"!

So I decided to move some grass, and I went in search of something to do so.  Not finding what I initially wanted, I decided to get one of the other shovels, and so I headed to the shed, behind the house.  That was when a very long snake started slithering.

Yes, I screamed.  Yes, I jumped up and down.  I didn't run away from the shed, because I needed something in the shed.  But more movements in front of the shed convinced me that this was not the smartest thing to do right now.  This snake either had friends or young ones there.  I was not about to find out which.

The puppies stood still, staring at me, as I screamed and jumped up and down, shaking my hands (as though there was something on my hands ... you'd think my fingers would just pop right off!) and finally running back to the front of the house.

I think that the only dog who got anxious by my screams was Buster.  The others looked curiously on, but otherwise seemed to be unconcerned, although the puppies started following me in, as I decided to get inside the house.

So ... is that the cue for me to go clean the house instead?  I did want to put the plants in (even though we haven't passed the safety point of the May long weekend as yet) and leave Mother Nature to take over the rest.

There is so much to do, before the weather starts to change again.  And I'm planting from seeds ... so I had hoped to get as much done as is possible, as early as I can, so that I can enjoy some of the fruits of my labour.

For now, I'm inside the safety of the house.  Cleaning it is!

Welcome to my blog!

This is my home in southern Ontario.

It is located on farm property on the border of two townships in the Niagara Region.

There is a lot of wide, open land space that is just very inviting for ... something.  Anything.

So this blog will document my projects related to improving the property.

My plan is to start a vegetable garden, so I will be growing my own foods.

I also plan to grow flowers.

Please keep in mind, however, that my fingers are not green, and so I will be learning how to make my plants flourish.

Since I have dogs, probably more importantly, I need to fence an area for the dogs to roam freely, without fear of injuries.

This I plan to do on a very limited budget.

I welcome your feedback.

Thank you for being a part of this exciting experience.
